Description

Metal coil slitting, or longitudinal coil cutting, is a specialized sheet-processing service in which steel, stainless-steel, aluminum or galvanized coils are cut lengthwise into strips of precise, custom widths. The process is carried out on a slitting line and prepares the output strips for production lines, packaging and industrial-component manufacturing.

What is metal coil slitting and how is it performed?

During slitting, the coil is unwound, passed through a set of adjusted knives and cut into strips of specified width. The strips are then recoiled or packaged for the next production stage according to the order. The technically accurate term is “longitudinal coil cutting” because the cut runs in the same direction as the sheet travels.

Applications of coil-slitting services

  • Manufacturing steel strapping and metal-packaging components
  • Automotive manufacturing and component production
  • Manufacturing profiles, tubes and fittings
  • Construction, building-services and home-appliance industries
  • Manufacturing aluminum cookware and components

Benefits of longitudinal coil cutting

  • High strip-width accuracy and consistent dimensions throughout the order
  • Clean, controlled edges with minimal burrs and surface damage
  • Reduced material waste and faster raw-material preparation
  • Capability to process steel, stainless steel, aluminum and galvanized sheet
  • Delivery of strips in widths and thicknesses suited to the production line

Ghafari coil-slitting capacity

  • Processing sheet from 0.2 to 6 mm thick
  • Slitting coils into widths from 10 to 1500 mm
  • Setting strip width according to the customer’s drawing or production requirement
  • Inspecting edge quality, width and packaging before delivery

What is the difference between slitting and cut-to-length processing?

In slitting, a coil is divided lengthwise into narrower coils or strips. In cut-to-length processing, the coil is cut at specified lengths and converted into flat sheets. If you need flat sheet in a custom length, see metal sheet cut-to-length services.
