Metal sheet cut-to-length processing, or transverse coil cutting, is a process in which steel, stainless-steel, aluminum or galvanized coils are cut at specified lengths and converted into flat sheets. Also known as Cut-to-Length, this service prepares material in custom dimensions for production lines and industrial projects.
What is cut-to-length processing and how is it performed?
During cut-to-length processing, the coil is unwound and leveled, then cut transversely at the specified length. After their length, surface and edges are inspected, the output sheets are stacked and packaged for safe transport. The technically accurate terms are “transverse coil cutting” and “cut-to-length” because the cut is perpendicular to the direction in which the sheet travels.
Applications of cut-to-length services
- Construction: roofing, façades, wall cladding and metal components
- Automotive manufacturing and component production
- Manufacturing home appliances and industrial equipment
- Manufacturing metal cookware and packaging
- Supplying sheets for cutting, bending and component fabrication
Benefits of transverse coil cutting
- Accurate, consistent sheet lengths according to the customer’s order
- Controlled surfaces and edges with reduced distortion and damage
- Reduced raw-material waste and preparation time on the production line
- Capability to process aluminum, steel, stainless steel and galvanized sheet
- Organized sheet packaging for safe storage and transport
Ghafari cut-to-length capacity
- Cut-to-length processing for sheet from 0.3 to 6 mm thick
- Orderable lengths from 200 to 6000 mm
- Setting sheet length according to the drawing or production-line requirement
- Inspecting dimensions and packaging before delivery
What is the difference between cut-to-length processing and slitting?
In cut-to-length processing, a coil is cut at specified lengths and converted into flat sheet. In slitting, the coil is divided lengthwise into narrower coils or strips. If you need strip in a custom width, see metal coil slitting services.
